Doxycycline is an antibiotic taken by mouth for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

Allergies

• Tell your health care provider if you have an allergy to any Tetracycline antibiotics such as Doxycycline, Minocycline, or Tetracycline. • Do not take Doxycycline if you have a sulfite (preservative) allergy.
Pregnancy/Breastfeeding

not safe to take during pregnancy.
• For short term use, Doxycycline is generally considered compatible during breastfeeding i.e. low risk to infant during breastfeeding. Consult your physician. • Long term use should be avoided during breastfeeding because of absorption by infants and toxicity in children (e.g., dental staining, decreased bone growth). • You cannot take Doxycycline if you have myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular

Do not take iron supplements, calcium supplements, aluminum and magnesium
containing antacids or Bismuth Subalicylates (Pepto Bismol®) at the same time as
Doxycycline. Take Doxycycline two hours before or six hours after taking these products.
• Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds). Doxycycline can make your skin more sensitive and sunburn may result. Use a sunscreen (minimum SPF 15) and wear protective clothing if you must be out in the sun. • You cannot take the following medications with Doxycycline
Oral Typhoid vaccine: (Vivotif®)
Psoriasis: Acitretin (Soriatane®)
Other: Isotretinoin (Accutane®)

Tell your doctor if you are taking the following medications

Antiarrhythmics: Digoxin (Lanoxin®)
Antibiotics: Rifampin (Rifadin®, Rofact®)
Anticoagulants: Warfarin (Coumadin®)
Anticonvulsants: Carbamazepine (Tegretol®), Phenytoin (Dilantin®)
Antihypertensive: Quinapril (Accupril®)
Barbituates: Pentobarbital, Phenobarbital, Secobarbital
Birth Control Pills (Estrogens/Progestogens)
Immunosuppressant: Methotrexate (Folex®)
Penicillins (Amoxil®), Penicillin V (Pen-VK®)

Side Effects
You may experience diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, headache or skin rash.
Instructions for Taking

• Take one capsule (100mg) in the morning and in the evening with food. • Take with a full glass of water and stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes.
Storage Instructions

• Store at room temperature between 15-30°C. • Protect from light, heat, and moisture. • Do not use medications beyond the printed expiry date. • Keep away from the reach of children.
Special Instructions

o one week after your 1-day treatment; or o your 7-day treatment is complete, and o your sex partner(s) have also been treated, even if their test results are negative. o you have sex with an untreated partner or o you have sex before either you or your partner(s) treatment is complete. • If you are using a hormonal form of birth control (oral tablets, ring, or patch), use an additional non-hormonal method of contraception (i.e. condom/diaphragm) until your present cycle is completed.
